Darren Mahony
Darren Mahony resides on the Gold Coast with his wife and two children. Darren is originally from Toowoomba where he attended St Joseph’s College. He received a TE score of 990, was awarded Dux and was well known for his academic and sporting achievements.
Darren then went on to study a Bachelor of Laws at the University of Queensland. Darren participated in many sports throughout his university career and was the Editor of ‘Obiter,’ the University Law publication. Darren graduated from the University of Queensland with his L.L.B in 1992.
Darren then completed his articles at the oldest law firm in Queensland, Flower and Hart in Brisbane City.
Darren then found his calling in criminal law and advocacy, which complimented his profound sense of fairness and justice.
Darren was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 1994.
Darren has since attained immeasurable experience in complex criminal and quasi-criminal law. He has represented clients in all offences up to and including murder and serious white collar crime and corruption. Darren has represented clients in prosecutions by ASIC, the Office of Fair Trading and many other government based prosecutions.
Darren is a recognised expert in relation to Shaken Baby Syndrome and Munchausen’s Disorder, which has lead to significant appearances in child safety matters.
Darren has been involved in many Sports Law investigations into both sporting clubs and individual players; including complex investigations by ASADA.
Darren in partnership with Mr Jason Jacobson continue to achieve successful results for all clients through their focused effort and experience.
Jason Jacobson
Jason Jacobson has lived on the Gold Coast since 1978. He attended Broadbeach State School then Miami State High, where he was captain in 1987. He studied Arts at UQ before commencing Law at QUT in 1990 before transferring to Bond University on scholarship, graduating in 1994.
Jason commenced 5 year articles of clerkship at the Southport firm of Price and Roobottom in 1990. He was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1995 and the Supreme Court of New South Wales in 1996. His name was entered on the role of practitioners of the High Court of Australia also in 1996.
Since 1991 Jason has worked exclusively in the field of private client criminal law defence. He has a wealth of Court experience and has appeared throughout Queensland as well as in New South Wales and Northern Territory. He is married with 3 children and has a keen interest in sport and fitness
In 2001, after 11 years at Price and Roobottom and having been appointed a partner of that firm, Jason left to commence Jacobson Mahony Lawyers in partnership with Darren Mahony. The firm commenced as the only Gold Coast law firm practising exclusively in private client criminal defence law. The firm continues to achieve success for its clients by virtue of focussed effort by highly experienced client advocates.
Joshua Tiffin
Joshua Tiffin was born and raised on the Gold Coast. He attended The Southport School before commencing a Bachelor of Laws and Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice at Bond University.
Josh commenced his career with Jacobson Mahony Lawyers, first employed as a law clerk in 2017. Josh remained a clerk, working alongside Jason and Darren until completing his studies. He was admitted as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland and the High Court of Australia in 2020 and became Senior Associate in 2024.
Since joining the firm, Josh has been closely mentored by both Jason and Darren in complex criminal and quasi-criminal matters. He has worked exclusively in criminal defence, gaining valuable experience in matters involving Fraud, Drug Offences, Child Safety, Australian Crime Intelligence Commission, Domestic Violence and Road Use Offences (including driver licence applications).
Josh is making a name for himself as a trusted and reliable legal advocate. He enjoys a challenge in his strive for justice and works tirelessly to achieve successful client outcomes. His approachable manner helps to assure clients they are in safe and capable hands.
Josh’s interests outside of work include surfing and spending time in the outdoors.
